THE FOOD:
Born and raised in Bogota Colombia, Chef Rene Medina holds a degree in fine arts from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His interest in cooking began at an early age with the influence of his mother’s passion for food. Rene has redirected his artistic talents into the culinary arts over the last ten years, working in various restaurants in Nevada and Yuba counties: Cafe Collage, Apollo D’Oro, Sergio’s Cafe, Five Mile House, Three Forks, and currently at the Stone House. Rene also runs his own small catering business, Chomp, which utilizes local, organic produce and meats to bring traditional Colombian food to Nevada County. Rene has a deep interest in seasonal food and how it can be used to create and draw a community together and encourage consciousness about where our food originates.

THE MUSIC:
Kyle “Nadi” Sanchez personifies what we look for in Global Dance Music. Part DJ, Producer, Promoter, and Tastemaker of Tropical music. He creates Afro-Latin, Caribbean-Electropical music that sounds like sunshine feels. His beats, good vibes, and hedonistic style speak of world travel and celebration. This genre-less journey that incorporates distinct flavors from Dancehall, Soca, Cumbia, Uk Bass, Gqom, Reggaeton, Dub, Trap, Salsa, Bashment, Champeta, Afrobeat, Hip Hop and other delicious fruits are his mixing expertise. These sounds are the rare beats that breath life and the human spirit into dance. Nadi has been well established in the scene or more than 15 years since starting with his love for mystic dance events back in Hawaii. Find Kyle this summer promoting the Electropical scene at West Coast festivals like Lighting in a Bottle, Shambahala, Shift Festival, and Internationally, bringing his rare and sought after style to lit dance floors all over the world. His long-standing & most successful event is called Electropical in Nevada City, California. Electropical is focused on Tropical Bass dance music alongside drummers, dancers, and unique artists on a weekly basis and is the perfect pairing for the Tropicali dinner at Polly’s Paladar Supper Club.

THE ART:
Juli Elin is a multidisciplinary artist from Florida, currently living and working in the Sierra foothills. Juli creates fibers out of literally anything she scavenges and uses the handmade fodder to build chaotically elaborate accumulation sculptures. She uses color relentlessly and unapologetically. Fascinated continuously by words said and unsaid, her pieces usually involve a personal narrative expressed in her long titles. Juli has developed a conglomerative persona of art and provocative personality over the last few years called Snowbroth. See more of her work and process at
www.snow-broth.com or on Instagram at @snowbroth_. Read a great interview with her HERE. http://www.shefolk.com/creatorinterviewsrss/2015/3/14/interview-with-fiber-artist-juli-elin-toro

THE CAUSE:
Child Advocates of Nevada County is a private, non-profit agency that operates programs in support of vulnerable children and families, including the CASA program, and Healthy Babies program. The CASA program trains volunteers to serve as mentors and advocates for our community’s most vulnerable children, those removed from their homes due to severe abuse or neglect. CASAs develop trusting, safe, and supportive relationships with their assigned child. They attend court hearings and advocate for the foster child’s best interests by submitting court reports to the judge and working in partnership with adoptive parents, social workers, teachers, and other adults engaged in the child’s life to promote the child’s best interests. The Healthy Babies program is a child abuse prevention strategy that assigns trained and accredited home visitors to support at-risk pregnant women by providing weekly home visits for the first five years of their child’s life. Home visitors provide crucial information about child development, infant health and safety, nutrition, and referrals to community services as needed to provide struggling families with the tools and knowledge they need to be healthy and robust. Child Advocates is thrilled to partner with Polly’s Paladar to promote healthy children, healthy families, and a healthy community for all of Nevada County.
